You are They.
This is what I always think whenever I hear someone say “they” should do something about “this.”
They being other people—usually the system. And This being the current disaster—usually something related to politics.
But that’s what I think. I don’t say it. Not directly.
Because just like with my adult children, if I want to send a message, I have to come in the back door with it.
What I try to say is, “Why are you so upset about this? What would you like done about it? If you were them, how would you fix it? Wow, what a great idea!”
Because not everyone is a fighter. A leader. An activist. And certainly, many people are stuck in 7th grade, afraid to be different from the pack. Worse, not everyone feels like their voice matters, and enough to risk making themselves heard.
Still, when you plant a seed, some take root. And some eventually become beautiful things that You put into the world.
Here’s to you if you’re doing the work of They! Because in time, all Our burdens will be lighter because of your efforts.
